Paddlecraft Readiness
Saturday, May 22, 2021
(Postponed from April 17, 2021 due to inclement weather forecast)
1:00pm – 3:30pm
Join us on the afternoon of Saturday, May 22, 2021 for a spring paddlecraft readiness class. We’ll go over the State of Maine laws for paddlecraft, including canoe, kayak and standup paddleboard. We’ll refresh your memory on personal flotation device (PFD) safety, rules and making sure you have a good fit. We’ll go over loading, securing and unloading your paddle craft on and off (or in and out) of your vehicle, including knot tying (the bowline knot and the trucker’s hitch). We’ll go over water safety and basic rescue. We’ll even have a throw rope challenge and the person who comes closest to the target will win one of Jon’s hand carved solid ash beaver tail canoe paddles! As always, something for your sweet tooth will be provided along with tea and coffee (iced if warm enough!). The entire class is held on dry land at Willow & Sunset’s home base in Waterboro, not near a water source. Please feel free to bring your own canoe, kayak or paddle board and PFDs so we can cater to your questions and needs!
The event is limited to 15 people, so please register ahead so we can prepare adequately for the right number of people.
The price is $20 per person or $40 per family (regardless of number of children).
Please bring a mask to wear for moments when we are closer together. The entire event will be held outside and you will have adequate space for social distancing.
Please follow signs and you will be assisted in parking.
